Returning to The Carib is the lovely Chantal Esdelle and her award-winning band Moyenne.
This T&T-based Caribbean Jazz group was founded in 1998 when Chantal Esdelle joined her friend, steel pan player Glenford “Kevin” Sobers. The duo performed for several months before being joined by percussionist Donald “Junior” Noel, the resident percussionist from 1998 till his death in 2015. Douglas Redon has been the group’s resident bassist since 2003.
The band welcomed young drummer Von Best in June 2018 just in time for its twentieth anniversary concert in June 2018. Gary Hayward Spenser serves as percussionist in the stead of his teacher Junior Noel.
Moyenne is the winner of the Trinidad and Tobago Steelpan and Jazz Festival 2013 Pan Challenge and has performed its brand of Caribbean jazz in several regional festivals including the Havana International Jazz Festival, the Trinidad and Tobago Steelpan and Jazz Festival, the Tobago Jazz Experience, Mt. Irvin’s Jazz on the Beach, and the Grenada Spice Jazz Festival. The group has released two CDs under the independent EJC label; New Hope (2000), Imbizo Moyenne (2010). Both feature the original compositions of Esdelle, Sobers and Redon.
