Torrance Iqbal Mohammed 04 October, 1931 – 24 May, 2021

Mr. Torrance Iqbal Mohammed ( Uncle T.I.M)  was one of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural treasures. This descendant of Bengali indentured immigrants, who hailed from Princes Town has made invaluable contributions to  our culture. He was a founding member of the Arawak Dance Group, the San Fernando Arts Council, the National Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Sando Cultural Ambassadors.( NGC Sanfest Brochure, 2017) He has been a part of multiple national and regional committees  both cultural and political in nature.

He has worn many hats such as producer, art director, actor, dancer, adjudicator and choreographer. His contributions to societal cultural development were recognized in 1976 with him being awarded with the Medal of Merit. His role as a tutor and mentor to many has made a massive impact on the lives of many who have sought to honour and celebrate his birth and life. His birthday was on October 4th; in honour of Uncle T.I.M we present to you a birthday tribute by one of his mentees Terry Brathwaite.
